Fact-based story of top fashion model Gia Marie Carangi follows her life from a rebel working in her father's diner at age 17 to her death in 1986 at age 26 from AIDS, one of the first women in America whose death was attributed to the disease. In between, she followed a downward spiral of drug abuse and failed relationships.

Though they ultimately skated far away from the "Two Tone" pigeon-hole that yawned for other bands of their ilk and age, the English Beat were certainly pursuing similar demons as they rose out of hometown Birmingham in 1979, with a ska-punk collision that matched social politics with sociological awareness, then turned the whole thing into a non-stop dance party.

They were promptly rewarded with the first of 13 UK hit singles scored over the next four years, but more surprising was the band's American breakthrough, where they out-performed both the period figureheads of the Specials and Madness, and ultimately hauled themselves into that rarified strata where they came to epitomise "ska" in the same way that the Police represented "reggae." It didn't matter that purists would run a mile at the thought of such a comparison. No-one ever went Top 40 by appealing to purists.

Showcasing the band's most adept maneuvers, the 15 tracks here round up all but three of the group's British hits, then pad in select highlights from the three regular albums.

From the very outset of the band's career, a swift run through "Tears Of A Clown" crackles with all the frenetic energy that characterised the band's period live show, while the deeply dubbed "Stand Down Margaret" represents one of the most potent political assaults of the entire 1980s - Margaret, of course, is British Prime Minister Thatcher and it's remarkable to think that, after just one year in office, people were already songs about how much they hated her.

Later, "I Confess" and a smart cover of Andy Williams' "Can't Get Used To Losing You" highlight just how masterfully the English Beat subverted radio-friendly pop to their own ends and, while not every track has withstood the test of time too well, enough do still thrill to encourage investigation of their entire catalog.

Gustav Klimt nasce nel 1862 a Baumgarten, quartiere di Vienna, secondo di sette fratelli. Il padre Ernst, immigrato boemo, e orafo, la madre, Anna Finster, appassionata di musica lirica. Le condizioni economiche della famiglia, gia compromesse, diventano precarie dopo la crisi economica del 1873 causata dal fallimento dell'Esposizione Universale di Vienna.
Nel 1876 il quattordicenne Gustav viene ammesso a frequentare la Kunstgewerbeschule, (scuola d'arte e mestieri del Museo Austriaco per l'arte e l'industria), dove studiera fino al 1883, confrontandosi con svariate tecniche artistiche, dal mosaico alla ceramica, nel rispetto dei canoni accademici e della storia dell'arte del passato. Tre anni dopo, con il fratello minore Ernst e con il pittore Franz Matsch, grazie all'interessamento del professor Laufberger, ottiene la commissione per la decorazione del cortile del Kunsthistorisches Museum, su progetto dello stesso Laufberger.
Nel 1880 dipinge le quattro allegorie del Palazzo Sturany a Vienna e il soffitto della Kurhaus di Karlsbad. Tra il 1886 e il 1888 si dedica, con il fratello e l'amico, alla decorazione del Burgtheater di Vienna, in una serie di pannelli raffiguranti teatri dell'antichita o del mondo contemporaneo. I tre guadagnano ben presto la stima e la notorieta tra i cittadini viennesi, e le commissioni dei primi ritratti garantiranno loro un discreto successo e una tranquillita economica. I ritratti vengono eseguiti a partire da fotografie, e una delle prime qualita che viene riconosciuta a Gustav e proprio la precisione fotografica nella resa dei volti.
Nel 1888 Klimt riceve un riconoscimento ufficiale dall'imperatore Francesco Giuseppe e le universita di Monaco e Vienna lo nominano membro onorario.
Nel 1892, a pochi mesi dalla morte del padre, anche il fratello Ernst muore improvvisamente: Gustav deve farsi carico di entrambe le famiglie, e questo lutto lascia un segno anche nella sua produzione artistica. Nello stesso periodo avviene l'incontro con Emilie Floge che, pur essendo a conoscenza delle relazioni che il pittore intrattiene con altre donne (negli anni '90 del XIX secolo Klimt sara il padre riconosciuto di almeno 14 figli), sara la sua compagna fino alla morte del pittore.
Nel 1898 si inaugura la prima mostra della Secessione viennese, movimento artistico costituitosi l'anno prima con Klimt presidente. La secessione pubblica una propria rivista, Ver Sacrum (primavera sacra) di cui verranno pubblicati 96 numeri, fino al 1903. Alla prima mostra vengono esposte opere dello stesso Klimt, di Auguste Rodin, Puvis de Chavannes, Arnold Bocklin, Alfons Mucha e Fernand Khnopff[1]. La seconda mostra inaugurera il Palazzo della Secessione, appositamente progettato da Joseph Maria Olbrich con elementi greco-egiziani: all'ingresso venne collocata la frase A ogni tempo la sua arte, all'arte la sua liberta.
Nel 1894 l'universita di Vienna aveva commissionato all'artista la decorazione del soffitto dell'aula magna: i lavori vengono rimandati per quattro anni e i pannelli eseguiti da Klimt rispecchiano il nuovo orientamento influenzato dalla Secessione. Filosofia, Medicina e Giurisprudenza verranno duramente contestate dai committenti, che avevano immaginato una sobria rappresentazione del progresso della cultura, ma che si ritrovano un turbinio di corpi sensuali. La protesta del corpo docente arriva fino al parlamento: a questo punto, Klimt decide di rompere il contratto e restituisce l'anticipo gia versato.
Elemento chiave dei lavori di Klimt e la figura femminile. Anche quando rappresentano figure allegoriche, le donne sono visibilmente ritratte da personaggi della vita quotidiana; talvolta si tratta di prostitute che, anche se ingentilite dalle citazioni classiche nel contesto del quadro, vengono raffigurate ad esempio con acconciature vaporose e trucco pesante. Oppure viene rappresentata come femme fatale, un tema molto in voga al tempo (basti pensare alle illustrazioni di Audrey Breadsley per la Salome di Oscar Wilde). Per esempio nella Giuditta II del 1909 la donna ritratta ovvero Adele Bloch-Bauer (donna dell'alta borghesia Viennese) ha quasi sembianze di una sirena. Questo scandalizza la societa viennese dell'epoca che avrebbe accettato senza problemi personaggi femminili idealizzati, ma che non puo non notare l'eccessivo realismo di certe figure e soprattutto dei nudi.Un'altra caratteristica della sua pittura e l'ornamento con forme ed elementi classici, che non solo svolgono funzione decorativa, ma assumono anche valenze simboliche, dando il massimo risalto alla figura centrale.[/center]
